Wash clothes when you have full load

Whenever possible, use the lowest water-level setting on the washing machine for light or partial loads to save the water over use. Use cold water as often as possible to save energy and to conserve the hot water for uses that cold water cannot serve. This is also better for clothing made of synthetic fabrics. Always use cold water for the rinse cycle. Using warm or hot water for the Rinse cycle doesn't get the clothes any cleaner. Try using warm or cold water for the wash cycle instead of hot water. Hot water shrinks the clothes, anyway. Hot water also fades and wears the clothes out quicker. Soaking clothes in warm water is usually just as good or better as hot water with no soak and this saves electricity and water too.

How to save water in laundry?

Washing machines use about 120 liters of water per load. Make sure each cycle is a full load, and use an economy setting always. Adjust the water level to suit the size of the load of washing. While buying a new washing machine, choose a water efficient model with a 3 stars or greater rating. Front-loading machines are typically the most water efficient, as they use up to 50% less water. When hand washing, wash garments together in a bucket. Pour the rinse water on the garden. Investigate installing a grey water system. This enables to capture shower, washbasin and washing machine run-off for use in the garden.

Tips to save water
Washing machines are major users of water in the home. Just like dishwashers, try not to operate them with small loads. Buy a new machine look for the star ratings which indicate good water efficiency and the more stars the better is the water saving. Consider buying a frontloading machine. They generally use less water than top loaders. By just taking care of few things while washing the clothes can really save lots of water daily. Check other thing also rather then washing machine like high water pressure in the tap can let the water flow unnecessarily while washing clothes. Do not hand washcloths, as it tends to waste more water.
