Stop the leaks and save water
About leakage:
It has been observed that a significant proportion of the water abstracted and put into public supply is lost through leakage from pipes. Basically leakage is the loss of water from the supply network that has escaped through means other than a controlled action. Even though the water is not permanently lost from the environment because it will eventually flow back to rivers or groundwater, but leaked water is essentially lost as a resource because of the time delay in this process. And besides this more water than is necessary is abstracted and wasted at times of stress.
Importance of reduction in water leakage:
The main causes of water leakage in wide network for example in a city may be due to the age of age of its network, the high population density, heavy traffic volumes and the quality of the soils. Reducing the waste of water through leakage is a big job but it's a responsibility on each and every one of us. Hence if a common supply pipe serves a premise and the neighbor's, then the inmate and all of the neighbors who share this pipe are responsible for its upkeep. One should always keep in mind that reducing the amount of water wasted through leakage is an important task particularly in terms of protecting the environment and helping to conserve water for the future.
How to perform a leak test:
If one is observing accumulated age then a leak test comes in handy. It is one of the most easiest and efficient ways to find a leakage. Below is listed some of the steps of an effective leak test. The first step is to stop using any water in the property by turning off all washing machines and taps etc. It is suggested to turn off the inside stop valve in a home as it is usually found under the kitchen sink. The next step is to take a meter reading and write it down. If the meter is obviously registering water consumption, it should be checked that everything is switched off and there are no cisterns filling. The second reading should be taken after about half an hour leaving the stop valve shut and if the reading has changed then there is a possible chance of leakage.
