Ensuring proper working of the electric meters-Safety yourself

Electricity is a general term for variety of phenomena resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge. It is derived from a Greek word, amber. An electric meter or energy is a device that measures the amount of electrical energy. The most common type is more properly known as a watt-hour meter or a joule meter. Utilities record the values measured to generate an invoice or the electricity.


Electric hazards

Electricity related hazards include electric shock and burns, arc-blasts impacts, and falls. An electric shock occurs when electric current passes through your body. This can happen when you touch an energized part, and if the current happens to pass the chest or head it may take away your life. Arch flash burns may occur if a conductive object gets too close to high amp current source or by equipment failure. It may cause severe skin burns by direct heat exposure. Arc-blasts impact, the heating may create a pressure wave that can damage hearing and cause memory loss. Electric shocks and arc blasts can cause falls, especially from ladders or unguarded scaffolding.

Safety principles whilst working

Decide on your approach and step-by-step procedures in order for safety. Beforehand checkout the hazards and how to work on with the live circuits, if it must be worked live. Identify the hazards by analyzing and identifying the reasons that could create electric shocks or arc-flash hazards. De-enginize the equipments or insulate or isolate exposed live parts so you contact them, thus minimize the hazards. Anticipate problems by making sure you have right PPE.
At home check the electric meters. Make sure the electric meters are working properly. If that are not working properly, get them checked and get it to its normal working as early. It may cause a health problem and it may even take your life. One of the most useful tools it is, meter that would ensure proper voltage is being delivered at a regular basis. Provide electricity and gas through a key meter, a proper arrangement.
