Log Cabin Houses

Log Home Kit
Log homes are very common in the cold, hilly .....
Log cabin houses are the same as log homes or log houses. Log cabin houses are typically made from wooden logs and are often found in the hilly regions. Log cabin houses are very common in the snowy regions as the wood helps to cut down on the cold that enters the cabin. A log house is a little bigger than a log cabin. A log cabin is more like a resting place or an observation place while a log house is like a contemporary home.

The log cabin houses can be handcrafted or that can be milled. Milled log cabin houses are easier and faster to construct as they are built using machines. On the other hand, a handcrafted log home is made of logs that have been peeled and they are kept unchanged from their original natural appearance. No wonder the handcrafted log cabin houses look rugged, but they look very natural and have a beauty of their own.

The milled or the machine made log cabins are made from logs that have undergone a process through the machines, hence losing their natural appearance and natural features. The logs are milled through the machines to remove any imperfections. The logs are then converted into timbers that are very much consistent in size and appearance. Hence the use of these milled logs gives a very uniform look to the log cabin houses.

There has been a difference of opinion between the millers and the hand crafted log builders. The handcrafted log builders argue that milled logs lose the natural appearance and they don't consider a milled log a log at all. However the millers completely disagree with this opinion.

Typical log homes can be found in many countries in northern Europe as well as in North America and Greenland. People in Russia and the Scandinavian countries also live in log houses. The art of making log cabin houses quickly spread to many parts of the world after the 1920s. Majority of the log cabin houses today are made from milled logs. This is because they are more economical than the handcrafted variety. Log cabin houses from milled logs are also faster to build than handcrafted ones.
