At Home Science Experiments With Plants

Plants In A Home
Most people appreciate some type of plants in a home. There are many reasons why plants in a home are used but no matter why, there is many species .....
One of the most rewarding ways for your child to learn about botany is through at home science experiments with plants. The internet offers a myriad of choices, and fun experiments will not only bring you and your child closer, but will help youngsters actualize the joy of learning.

Most of the experiments found through a Google search online are free of charge, written by upstart teachers looking for extra money publishing their experiments. For example the first website on the search query pulls up one hundred and twenty two simple experiments that include a worm farm. This is a simple and rewarding experiment for all ages. For practical purposes, make sure your child doesn't eat the worms themselves while you get them the soil for their experiment.

An at home science experiment with plants is a great way to spend a rainy afternoon with your three to seven year old child. When the rain washes out the topsoil, worms are exposed on the surface of the dirt, wriggling trying to find their homes, which are lost to precipitation. Collect ten to twenty five worms, and place them in a container, with about an inch of damp soil from the ground. Release most of the water by making "soil hamburgers". Allow your youngster to get involved, and this will be a good tactile exercise, the benefits being increased motor skills and a reward to follow directions.

Then put the dirt through a sand sifter, but not before loosening the top soil. Lightly spray the dirt in the container with a hair salon style spray bottle. Cover the container (not before poking holes) and go to the hardware store. At the hardware store buy seeds of your favorite plant, (I would say grass works best at first, but then buy a pot and grow flowers) along with a bag of potting soil. Then put the soil in a pot, with two worms to every half inch of soil, and then put the topsoil on top. After you do that, put the grass seed on top, water every day, and relish the memories.
