Cast iron is durable and heavy. Cast iron is a good choice for the mantle and hearth. New fireplaces are prefabricated from metal and encased in wood-frame walls. They generally have a metal shell. Cast iron fireplaces impart an ornate look to the room. Cast iron fireplaces were first used in the Victorian period. Cast iron is a blend of true contemporary and modern styles. It can be easily worked upon. High quality of iron ensures strength and value for money. Cast iron fireplaces can incorporate both inserts and surrounds in one unit. They are easy to install and save the additional cost of installing a separate surround. Metal fireplaces have an added advantage over wood and stone fireplaces. Wooden fireplaces are vulnerable to fire hazards. Stone fireplaces are tough to install. Metal fireplaces offer easy installation and maintenance. A metal fireplace screen ensures that a breeze down the chimney doesn't deposit smoke or cinders on the floor and carpet. Metal fireplaces can be wall mounted also.

Metal fireplace accessories include antique brass fire fronts, black metal fire fronts, fire fronts with silver finish, fire fronts with chrome finish and brass fire fenders. Metal mesh can be beautifully detailed with graceful scrolls. Brass fireplaces have a silk smooth luster adding to its overall appeal. The brass fenders are beautiful and fit almost all fireplaces. It is necessary to keep the metal fireplace from rusting or corroding. A coat of good quality paint or polish would maintain the look of the metal fireplace.
