A kitchen simplifies your life and also adds appeal and value to your home. If you are planning to build your own kitchen then it is highly recommended that you read and remember a few of the tips that you will be reading about in this article.

Popular kitchen design ideas for DIY projects

You should plan a kitchen that is functional as well as attractive. Basically there are five kitchen layouts that you can consider while designing your kitchen. These designs are the U Shaped Kitchen, L Shaped Kitchen, Island Kitchen style, Single Line Kitchen layout and the Galley Kitchen layout. The U Shaped Kitchen is the most versatile, safe and efficient kitchen offering maximum bench and storage space. The L Shaped kitchen is mostly suited to large, long or narrow rooms allowing space for a meals area. Island Kitchen style combines any shape kitchen with a workbench. The island creates extra workspace, at the same time offering a feeling of openness. The single line layout needs a minimum of three meters of wall. Space is maximized with storage kept overhead and under bench appliances utilized. And finally professional chefs prefer the galley layout, it utilizes the space most efficiently cabinets down either side of the room.

Fitting ideas for a do it yourself kitchen

There are 3 indispensable fittings to be considered such as the placement of sink, refrigerator and other appliances. These should form a work triangle with sink along one wall and fridge and hot plate in the 2 corners opposite. It is advisable to allocate corner units 904 x 904 or 954 x 954 in a U shape or L shape kitchen. The dishwasher should be placed next to the sink. The cook top and under bench oven or stand alone stove should be placed near the sink, Leaving a minimum of 302mm space next to cook top for the placing of bowl or plate and preparation of food. The microwave should be placed above or below the bench. And the garbage bin should be near the sink. Once you have all the plans sorted out all you need are the DIY kitchen kit and your set of tools. And you will be able to set up your kitchen in less than half the cost the professionals will charge you. Besides the DIY kits it produces a very professional finish even for an amateur.
