Ideas For Curtains Or Window Coverings

Window coverings are an important part of interior decoration. Putting a curtain on a window is like icing on a pastry. It gives finishing touch to the room. The colours you choose reflect your style, your mood and also have an impact on the environment where you live and also work. Choosing window curtains can appear to be overwhelming as there are many varieties to choose from. If you can get the guidance you will be able to express the ideas you have. Keep in mind that windows tend to occupy large areas of the wall so what you put on them will have direct impact on the room. While choosing a curtain consider the privacy of the room - if you want curtain to cover the room completely if the windows open out onto busy streets or into neighbours house. The light control is another factor - whether the glare from the window is distracting your work or while watching TV. Function and style are other factors, which you need to keep in mind while putting curtains in the rooms.

Types of window coverings

1. Curtains are suspended from a rod with tabs and rings and they cover the entire window. They are made from different fabrics and can be dressed with bows, brass rings or silk tassel tiebacks.

2. Drapes fabric is heavier than that of curtains. They can be lined or unlined and range from formal to informal depending on the type and weight of the fabric. They are attached to the transverse rods and are open and closed via a cord mechanism. Hand-drawn drapes are also popular.

3. Valances are decorative piece of fabric that hangs over the top edge of curtains. They usually complement with shades of the curtains.

4. You have blinds and shades which be can used instead of curtains according to your taste.

Some curtain ideas

Double tier curtains with valance can be made using a double rod on top of the window and a single rod in the center of the window. You can place your valance in the outer rod on top of the window; in the inside one you can hang a short frilly curtain which touches till the center of window. On the single rod in the centre of the window you can hang another curtain that reaches the windowsill or a bit longer. Another way to create an elegant effect for the window is by coordinating multiple pairs of panel curtains. Use dark colours on the outside edge and soft or natural colours in the inside edges. Always use colours and prints and fabrics that blend with colours of walls and the upholstery of the furnitures in that room.
