Curtain pole
A curtain pole is a rail from which the curtain or the valance is hung. They enhance the appearance of a room in their own way. They not serve the purpose of holding the curtains but also elevate the decorum of the room. They are available in different materials and can hold light to medium weight curtains. The poles allow you to choose from a wide range of curtain headings like tab top, eyelet or pencil pleat. They have ranges that are modern as well as traditional. The poles are available in wood/timber, iron and powder coated, steel, bamboo and so on. They have rings that fix the hooks on the heading of the curtains. Poles are easy to install and the finials and other pieces of hardware provides a designer look.
Finials
The decorative fixing at the end of the poles is the finials. They come in different shapes and sizes, some complex, some simple, some traditional designs to modern decorations. Some popular designs and shapes are flowers, arrowhead to pomegranate and pineapple, acorns, scallop shells along with wood balls. The most contemporary type of pole system is the steel wire that does not impose on the windows. They are tension rods positioned between the window frames and are held by a spring tension system. This types of pole system is popularly used in the shower curtains.
Fixing a curtain pole in the room
The poles come mainly in three lengths of 120,150 and 180 cm. You can choose the one that is appropriate for your window or they can be cut to size or joined with a connector if the material is metal. The wooden poles come with a double end screw to join them. Once you have chosen the material decide where the pole has to be fixed that is on the wall above the window or on the window frame. Measure the width taking into account the space needed to move the curtains. For fitting the chosen finials at either end of the poles ensure there is sufficient space.
Tips for fixing curtains
1. If the type of curtain used is pleat curtain, then fit the curtain hooks into the "eyes" on the bottom part of the curtain rings.
2. To keep the end of the curtain in place, put the end ring between the bracket and the finial.
3. Tab top and eyelet curtains can be fitted directly onto the pole. Here also see that end of eyelet or tab is placed between the finial and the bracket.
