Curtain hardware

The curtains look best when they are hung from good curtain hardware. I personally feel the most challenging part of the job of window dressing and decoration is choosing the hardware of appropriate size and style and also one that suits our budget. It i crucial to measure the window before buying the necessary materials. The length of the curtains can be upto the windowsill or almost to the floor or a point somewhere in between.

Determine the hardware for your window

1. The beauty of the drapes is accentuated by the hardware you choose and how it is installed. You need to determine whether you want the window hardware to stand out or be invisible depending on the room. You need to choose the hardware related to the function of a window.

2. For the sake of flexibility layer your window treatments. That is place the blinds next to the glass for light control and then add the curtain panels. Check out for rods, finials and hardware, in styles and colours that will project the decorum of the room and the window treatments. Chrome rods, glass finials, and cable systems are some of the hardwares that is commonly used in the contemporary homes today.

3. Always match the hardware to the style of your curtains and the room. For heavy draperies choose sturdy and thick rods and for sheer curtains or silk curtains go for lighter and thinner rods. For a traditional and rustic outlook choose styles accented with carved dark wood or simple wood rods of pine, redwood or so on.

4. Add height to the room by fixing the drapery hardware well above the window frame. Heavy cornices and finials are best for larger rooms with high ceiling and lighter ones for low ceilings.

Hardware installation

Whatever the type or style of the curtains, the hardware has to be installed carefully for lasting long. The brackets have to be mounted to the wall on each side of the window casing to hold the curtain rod. You need to install another rod in case you are fixing a valance. Before buying the hardware, take the measurement of the window width. Make sure to buy the window treatment hardware that is adjustable to the final measurement. Mark the positions of the brackets using the carpenter's level and drill a hole in the marked positions to screw in the brackets. Using a tape measure determine the point for fixing the center support bracket. Always choose the height that best suits your room's décor. Put the curtains onto the curtain rod and snap the rod into place on the wall brackets and center support.
