Lighten your walls to keep your home cool

Colour is an ingredient that adds vibrancy to our everyday life. We just can't imagine how dull and drab our live would be without the array of colors that we have become so accustomed to. Besides adding that exciting and stimulating touch to our everyday life, colors can actually affect our natural environment and immediate surrounding climate. The rising temperatures and the uncomfortable heat that accompanies it send each one of us in different directions in search for ways to cool our homes. The options at our disposal can be mind-boggling. They could include options such as the use of dehumidifiers, air conditioners, fans, air coolers and other such options that might not necessarily be cost-effective. The other options at your disposal may include simpler options such as planting trees around your house, making use of roller shades, Venetian blinds and other such variations. There is another factor that contributes immensely to the cooling of your home. One such factor is the color scheme of the entire home.

How colours have an effect:

Of the entire home the color of the rooftop is of utmost importance and must be taken into consideration. It is a scientifically proven fact that dark colors absorb a very high degree of light that is reflected upon it. Whereas light colors are known to reflect of most of the light and heat that is reflected onto its surface. Hence the roof must be painted with light shades so as to ensure that most have the light and heat that is directed upon it due to the sunlight is reflected off its surface. Thus the home will definitely be a few degrees cooler during the daytime.
Besides the exteriors, even the interiors of the house must be painted with suitable colors. This could include light blue or a light shade of purple. These are very cooling colors. Light pastels and peach colors are also recommended to be used in the interiors of your house.
These are just some of the guidelines that you can make use of while deciding on the color scheme of your home that will provide for a cool environment in and around your home.
