Insulation for home cooling:

About insulation:

Insulation is the process of reducing the rate of energy flow. Insulation is any material used to reduce, diminish, slow down, retard, resist or decrease the rate of heat flow. Insulating is not only essential in order to keep a house warm in cold climates, but they also help in keeping home cool in hot weather. It is seen that the attics of most homes absorb heat through the roof, and insulating the attic floor will keep this heat from radiating down into the house effectively. The easiest is the fiberglass insulation, when it comes to install and the cost can be recouped quickly in lower energy bills throughout the year. Other than this, caulking and weatherstripping doors and windows will also prevent warmer outside air from seeping into your home. Also the costs of these materials are very low and there application is simple.

Effectiveness of insulation for cooling:
No matter where the house is located, it surely can be more comfortable and energy efficient with the right insulation. Also a properly insulated home reduces heat flow, using less energy in the winter for heating and less energy in the summer for cooling thus reducing the cost of heating in the winter and cooling in the summer seasons respectively. Insulation slows heat transfer from outside to inside, or vice-versa in the winter. A standard attic insulation levels should be R-19 or higher. It also should be noted that if one needs to heat your house in the winter, insulation is even more important because of the greater temperature differential between inside and outside. In such cases it is suggested to have insulation levels of R-30 or higher. However in hot climates, if there is already some significant amount of insulation, it will probably be more cost-effective to install a radiant barrier instead of adding more insulation. Prior to any purchase of insulation materials one should look for the R-value which means resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulation power and it must be disclosed for most insulation products.
