Bin Compost Garden

Compost is the best manure for your garden. Using bins for composting is the best way of making this compost in a simple and effective way.

Making bin compost

So what do you need to make compost for your garden? To begin with you will need organic wastes and a bin. A bin is a necessary investment that helps you to keep all the material neat and tidy. It also helps control all the essential elements of composting like moisture and temperature. The size of the bin depends on the size of your garden. While a too large bin can be artistically and economically difficult to manage, a smaller than average bin will have very limited capacity and require frequent monitoring in order to keep the conditions of composting under check. Also if your home and garden wastes are not enough to keep even an average bin working, you may have to consider building communal compost bin. Usually, the bin should be filled completely as soon as possible as the process of bin does not start in a half full bin. As it takes a month or so to fill the bin, a large garden can require two or three bins to produce enough compost in a short space of time. To produce good quality compost you should have a mixture of dry matter like straw, dry leaves etc. and wet green material like weeds, grass clippings etc. the material should be shredded to fasten the process. You should strictly avoid using waste like meat, fish, pet faeces, glossy magazines etc. The compost thus produced is ready in three or four months. It is dark and crumbly and has an earthly smell. The finished compost can then be applied two to three inches deep around vegetation and flowering plants.

Advantages:

Bin compost helps you to keep your garden wastes confined. Bin composting keeps the garden neat and tidy. Rate of decomposing also increases dramatically with the use of these bins. They help save space in your garden. The compost can be turned easily in the bin as compared to large heaps. They also keep away rodents from the compost.

Disadvantages:

Commercial compost bins are expensive. The bigger the garden greater the expense. However, making simple bins at home can resolve this issue.
