Pillows can add a new color and comfort. And protects your wallet.

Instead of spending money on furniture, try a new color and/or pattern for a new look.

To defer the cost of a new piece for a little longer, try new pillows (cushions) or a slip cover that matches the new piece that you are trying to match, new color on the walls, new arrangement of the room, the new art piece, or whatever. Money does not grow on trees, so I am just making suggestions to try and keep as much in your pocket as possible. A set of $60 pillows or $100 slipcover is allot easier to stomach that a new $1500 couch. See my point.

Another idea is if you (or someone you know) is handy with a sewing machine, make your own. My wife and I bought a sofa when we first got married that we fell in love with. Five years later we grew tired of it and it was not conducive to kids (and kids and husbands messes) and wanted to move on. My mother, who is extremely handy with the sewing machine offered to make us a

slipcover. We accepted. My wife went to pick out the perfect fabric and my mother went to work. It is absolutely beautiful and fit so much better with the decor that the room has evolved into. 4 years later it still fits perfectly into the new house and has slowed the badgering of new couch talk and it can be removed and laundered. Wow that easily turned thousands of dollars into about a hundred dollars. Whew, that was a close one. A little sweat will get you further than you think and could save you a ton of money. Just a thought!
