Features of Landscape Design Software

Using Software Programs for Landscape Design

An interesting new way that many homeowners have found to simplify the process of designing your landscape is with the use of landscape design software.

Landscape design software programs cannot completely take the place of a landscape architect, but the huge advantage here is that you can pay for it one time, and then use it over and over again. This also allows the beginning landscape designer to get a good idea of what is possible. Even professional landscape designers may use software programs to make their life easier and to express their ideas to their clients.

Most design program products have great features that can help you decide where to put different plants, and how different features would look in a completed landscape.

Common Features of Most Landscape Design Software Programs

-The software program usually includes some pre-laid out garden designs that you can use for inspiration by looking at the ideas presented by the program.

-Several programs provide suggestions on the correct way to plant your garden or maybe install certain landscape features.

-One really cool feature is that you can scan your own digital photos so that you can design a landscape concept around what your yard looks like right

now and then see the difference that the landscape design could make. Some software programs even design in 3D.

-You can use the software program to take you through the seasons of the year so that you can view what the landscape would look like with autumn leaves or perhaps spring flowers. This is also quite useful when you have plants with different flowering times and you want the yard to remain beautiful year round.

-Sometimes it is possible to enter in the soil conditions for your area and the software program can do a search for the vegetation most likely to do well in your location and climate.

-In a "virtual yard", it is easy to move the plants around until you are satisfied with the result. When you are ready to get started, the design program will help you work out a plan of action for bringing your landscape design into the real world.

In the long run, the price of the online landscape design program (usually between $25 and $75) is very minimal compared to the hundreds of dollars you would spend to have someone else professionally install your landscape. With landscape design software program, you will have less waste when you are ready to bring your ideas to life.
