The Changing Design of Kitchen Appliances

The range of appliances that can be used in the kitchen has always continued to expand through time, from the humble mortar and pestle that has been used for centuries past to the state-of-the-art juicers that are appearing everywhere. These appliances each have their own purposes to serve in aiding the user to create culinary masterpieces that would have been almost impossible without their use. There are some items that do a job that can be done manually by the user, but they are designed to do the job faster and more effectively. This helps to provide the user with the convenience that is the motivating factor in their acquisition.

In any given kitchen there can be multiple appliances that perform the same function, but there can be subtle differences between each of the items to provide a range of different functions to help the user. One example of this is the acquisition and use of both manual wheatgrass juicers and electrically powered all-round juicers in the same kitchens. Another example is the use of a kettle and an electric coffee maker since they, like the previous two examples, perform very similar functions, but one of the appliances concentrates on one aspect and can produce better end products due to the concentration of functionality, but the other item has a far wider range of functions.

Every person has particular instruments and appliances within their kitchen that they have a preference for using and these instruments can vary, depending on the person making use of them and the type of things that they do in the kitchen. The greater the use an item has for the user the more often it is likely to be used and so the quality of an appliance has a great influence on the amount of times it is used. There are some appliances that people are only likely to use on an occasional basis, like the waffle maker, while other items tend to be used on a daily basis and more regularly, like the juicers that have begun to proliferate in kitchens in recent times.

The quality of appliances can vary greatly and can have a huge impact on the effectiveness and usefulness of each appliance. The life span of an item will be determined by this factor as well as the purpose and regularity with which it is used. In many different types of appliances there are some parts that are subjected to greater strain than the others and can wear out at a far greater rate. These can include the motor or blades of electric carving knives or the motor and blades of food processors or juicers.
