When placed on a counter, a side-swing door is the best option, as it allows for easy access to plates, etc. A garbage disposal is a must in any kitchen and is a great convenience eliminating the need for a separate receptacle for garbage. Another great convenience is a trash compactor built into one of your lower cabinets spaces. This allows you to eliminate a trashcan in the kitchen area.
